Visit to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve...

Had to wake up at 630am today to go Sungei Buloh to recce the place for our Perisesarma crabs... First time we're stepping out of Mandai mangroves to other places to look for our study species. Well, can say its an enriching experience of
1) Having the luxury to wake up late becasue I stay in Yew Tee.
2) having the luxury to walk on the broadwalk and observe the crabs instead of threading into the mud (although we did that to explore the more extensive mangroves further in).
3) having the luxury of being welcomed by the senile old man...haha...he keeps telling us 'mian fei' (free-of-charge) when all we wanted to do was borrow a pen from him. But he was nice, he showed us drawings he drew himself, he even drew pineapple plants and said that there's pineapples growing in Sungei Buloh!!!!???
4) having the luxury of getting free-insect repellent...rules from SBWR in view of malaria cases there recently.
5) the luxury of exploring unfamiliar ground and steeping into soft-muds that we'll sink into like quicksand...(haha! over-exaggerate a little here!)
6)the luxury of a convenient tap there to happily wash our feets and waste their water as much as we want! haha...there's shower room there too! First time we walked out of a mangrove so clean and feeling great!
7) luxury of seeign puppies playing in the mud?

Our species of crabs there are fewer than in Mandai...sadly. But the few there are very healthy and their colouration is astouning. Very brightly coloured facial bands...very pretty. Think i might do behavioral studies there next time...or use it to film their posture with our home-made periscope. Too bad cannot catch the crabs there...rules!
This stretch of mangrove is very well-taken care of, very clean...no rubbish! and not mucn clams! dun smell as bad as Mandai too! Maybe its less disturbed, we can find such healthy population of many crabs here. Anyone interested to come help me next time? =)
