In Love with Jesus!: Sipadan Dive Trip Dec 2006

Review:

We went on a one week trip to Sipadan, located at west malaysia, the beautiful island of Sabah. Sipadan is a well-known paradise to all divers out there, to some it might even be their dream destination for their honeymoons with their loved ones. Indeed, this place cannot be compared to many other dive sites we've been too...it is simply SWEET DIVING! To all divers out there, the most beautiful thing about Sipadan is its wall dives that stretches down into the never-ending world of the dark abyss....you simply can't see the sea bottom and you don't know where it ends or how far it goes, the wall beside you is the only thing you feel safe with...and it is theeming with life! It feels like you're hanging in space, weightless and floating in the vast deep sea, this feeling cannot be described! You know when you're in love with nature, you're just mesmerized about what you see in the very first few minutes of the very first dive.

Let me tell you more about Semporna, the place where we based our diving from. We dived with Scuba Junkie, not too bad, but I'll say its still not the best dive operators compared to Flora Bay Divers in Perhentian. BUT for all budget travellers and divers out there, Scuba Junkie can offer you the cheapest and good diving in Sipadan. For 6D5N 12 dives in total around Sipadan and the many islands, we paid a total of S$800 plus including Air Asia flight, meals, etc etc. Its really cheap and where can you get such good deals??? However, erm the daily breakfast provided, plus on board lunch...its humble fair and the same food everyday, so sometimes can buy your own food for a change. Things are cheap there, road side stalls and canned foods are a no no, buy their mineral waters. Well, we would like to go Mataking or Kapalai or Sipadan water Resort the next time round for a change, heard from divers that Mataking living is good, and Kapalai has experienced local DMs.

Diving:

Basically, we really get to see what we want to see in the very first dive in Sipadan. Here, we see large pelagics like Manta rays, eagle rays, hammerhead sharks, white-tip/black-tip/grey/leopard sharks, huge turtles, moray eeld, lionfish, and schools of really huge yellow-tail barracudas...etc. I saw the eagle ray in the first few minutes into my first dive, moments later the next group saw the manta rays closely below it. I was banging my tank furiously with my pointer, getting the attention of the rest. I think we were really lucky. Then, we saw sharks, sharks, and sharks above and below us. It was amazing! I remember my heart was beating so fast cause I was so excited, that my tank went to 100 bar in no time...slow downnnnnn.........

We went to South Point, Turtle cave, Turtle Patch on the first day; and South point, Barracuda Point and Kapalai wrecks on the 2nd day.

One really interesting I captured on video was the garden eels, whole 'garden' of them poking out of the sand feeding and capturing passing plankton!

Well, the story speaks for itself as we neared the cave. The entrance had a danger sign warning divers to enter at our own risk. The entrance was pretty big, but as we entered, it gradually darkens, and what's so eerie abt it is that the cave is really DEEP! with tunnels separating and leading into the cold and lonely graveyards. Some people call it turtle tomb...for a reason. However, the beauty of this cave lies in the 'roof' of the cave...as I slowly ascend to the top of the cave and look up, there seems to be a 'mercury' river like a silver mirror reflecting the little rays of light penetrating the cave. One DM told me this happens when air bubbles from divers get accumulated at this air pocket. I stuck my hand into this 'mercury mirror', and it felt as if i was sticking my hand into water from land. Aspiring to be a marine biologist and do what I love to do, if not, hoping to sign on...but oh well, got one more year to think clearly. Life is so good now and I'm a very happy person becasue I'm God's beloved and is abound with His grace and goodness each day. He leads me and teaches me His wisdom.
